Pre-Jerusalem

Hello Friends and Family!

I have the wonderful opportunity this summer to study at the BYU Jerusalem Center.  It is a semester-long study abroad program, so I will leave next week on April 30th, and I will return at the end of August.  I will be at the Center with about 75 other students.  Here is a link to the Jerusalem Center website if you would like to read more about where I am going:

Also here is a link to a video tour of the BYU Jerusalem Center if you would like to learn more and to see what the inside looks like.  It is about 13 minutes long.

While we are there, we all take the same classes that have to do with studying the Bible, the history and geography of the area, studying the Islam religion, and learning a little Hebrew or Arabic.  (I am taking Hebrew). We also have a class called "field trips."  So every week I will have the chance to travel around the Holy Land and see all the important sites!  Pretty cool, right?

So while I am in Jerusalem at the BYU Jerusalem Center, I would like to have a way to share what I am learning, seeing, and experiencing with everyone.  A lot of people have told me they were interested in hearing what I am going to do in Israel, so I figured that a blog would be a great way to share my experiences with people.  I plan on posting on this blog about once a week.  I will post pictures and share some of my memorable experiences that I  have had throughout the week.  Feel free to share the link to this blog with anyone that you might think would enjoy it.

While I am on this study abroad, if you would like to contact me, you can contact me by email:

Or you can send me a letter in the mail if you'd like:

Thanks to all of you who have wished me well on this experience!  Next week look for a post about my trip and what the Jerusalem center is like!

  1. HI Rachel. I want to tell you that these next four months will be the most wonderful experience of your life. You will become best friends with the other 75 students there and they will teach you things that will change your life. Remember to stop and smell the roses as you begin this journey in Jerusalem. Have fun, take pictures, ponder on your own time, write in your journal and watch the sunset each night. I loved being in Jersualem. It has changed my life. This is the beginning of a great adventure, the beginning of your life. I wish you the best this semester and I promise you that you will have so much fun! Take each moment because before you know it you will be flying home to see your family again. The one regret I have is that I didn't write in my journal as much as I should have and I didn't take the time to ponder each day. Good luck Rachel!

  2. A nice article here, i think that people who have grown up with the idea of using computers are showing more responsibility towards writing posts that are thoughtful, do not have grammar mistakes and pertinent to the post..
